Communication is a skill that most people take for granted. The irony is that although communication is a skill that can be learnt, and one that is required every moment of the day in every aspect of our lives, it is a skill that is not taught at school and most people assume they are able to communicate with others effectively. This is far from the reality: most people have mediocre or poor communication skills, as is evidenced by the confusion, unhappiness and conflict we see in the working environment every day. This lack of skill is a negative factor in peoples’ lives and in terms of career prospects. This is because the way we communicate is an external fabrication of who and what we are as human beings and much of our communication is subconsciously constructed. Most people are not aware of the messages their body language, tone or diction conveys; nor of the messages the Receiver understands when interpreting these signals. Nor do they recognise or adjust their communication to suit the communication strengths and weaknesses of their audience.

In order to develop, grow, progress in a career, be successful and be happy in our jobs it is, therefore, vitally important that we understand certain aspects of the human being and how and why we communicate as we do. This is because the power of communication to influence, motivate, lead and persuade others is directly linked to an understanding of the self and of the needs of others. Powerful communication is achieved when we really know ourselves and when we adapt to each situation because we really consider, understand and communicate with the Receiver in mind – not with the self in mind.

This advanced, two-day course will provide assistance with understanding how human beings communicate and mis-communicate. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of communication, how it affects every aspect of their lives, including how they are perceived, how they achieve, how they fail in a business environment and the sub-conscious drivers of behaviour and communication. The course is a practical, participative course that is constructed around exercises carefully designed to ensure real learning by attendees and relevance to the world of work. The workshop will help employees at all levels of the organisation to improve their communication skills and to become happier, more productive employees.
